Sandy soil
Qty: 1000The sandy soil was used for an experiment to test the effects of drought and heat on lupine. 90% sand and 10% pro-mix. The sand is classified as 'play sand' and was extracted from an Ontario quarry. The grain size is about 0.4-0.8 mm. Only lupine was planted in these soils, which have now died. The soil may contain rhizobia, which were used to inoculate the lupine roots with, but also, the soil has been sitting indoors, untouched, without water, for at least 4 months. The lab has extra lupine seeds that could be used to plant in these sandy soils. Sundial lupine (Lupinus perennis) is native to southern Ontario, and its furthest extent is in Ottawa. The plant flowers in early May and does well in well-drained soils.
